Scythian’s 2nd Annual Appaloosa Festival: Return to Your Roots, Labor Day Weekend
Scythian, Washington, D.C.’s #1 band two years running, has announced early-bird tickets are now on sale, for their 2nd Annual Appaloosa Festival, Labor Day Weekend, September 3 & 4, 2016, in Front Royal, VA, one hour from D.C. Headliners include Scythian, The Black Lillies, Mipso, Humming House, Socks in the Frying Pan, Marie Miller, The Accidentals, Lowland Hum, and Six-String Soldiers.
The Black Lillies have topped the Billboard charts, and dominate Americana radio, while Mipso’s latest album debuted at #1, on Billboard’s Bluegrass chart. Humming House was praised by Huffington Post, as a Top 15 of 2015 Festival Act, and Socks in the Frying Pan was just named #1 New Band in Ireland. Marie Miller played for Pope Francis and an audience of 3/4 million, alongside Aretha Franklin, and Andrea Bocelli. The Accidentals were designated by Billboard as a Top 7 Breakout Act at SXSW, and Lowland Hum was recently featured on the exclusive NPR Tiny Desk Concert series. Part of the popular touring U.S. Army Field Band, Six-String Soldiers has appeared on Conan.
The Appaloosa Festival will be held at Skyline Ranch Resort, nestled among the beautiful backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley Wine Trail. This family-friendly festival offers on-site camping, horseback riding, a petting zoo, fishing pond, playground, mini-golf, and much more. Skyline Ranch Resort is just a few miles from the main entrance to Shenandoah National Park with rafting, hiking, biking, and wineries nearby.
30+ bands will be featured, including the most critically acclaimed emerging artists from around the country, playing bluegrass, Americana, folk, country, and more. The lineup also stars Billy Strings, Karikatura, Gothard Sisters, Moore Brothers, The Fitzgeralds, The Collection, Kevin Heider, Bud’s Collective, Bumper Jacksons, Robbie Limon, Kenny Kohlhaas, Low Water Bridge, Hillbilly Thomists, The Duskwhales, Ben-David Warner, Dan Arnold & the Swingin’ Standards, Adam & I, Little Hill Trio, Patrick Mahon, Vinyl Tracks, Bryan Elijah Smith, and Boyle School of Irish Dance.
Appaloosa Festival 2015 drew a crowd of 3,000+ from up and down the East Coast, and as far away as California. 10% of profits will go to charity: last year’s beneficiaries were the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1860 in Front Royal, VA, and the Little Sisters of the Poor. Additionally, the Appaloosa Blue Ridge Arts Foundation has just been launched, a non-profit dedicated to mentorship and scholarship opportunities for up-and-coming young musicians.
